|
|
Hi
I was hoping to get a recommendation please for a good single malt for my husband's 40th birthday.
He's had most of the usual ones you see in a supermarket and i'd like to get him something special - i'm happy to pay up to £200ish.
Any help much appreciated as I know nothing about whisky and don't want to spend that kind of money only to find it's awful!!
Many thanks

Hi Zoe
For that price there are plenty of very good whiskies to choose from. Do you know any brands of malt whiskt which your husband already enjoys, it would make it easier to direct you to something he will really like. |

Hi Brummie
He's drinking Lagavulin (16 years) at the moment and I know he likes that. He also likes Highland Park (think he's had the 12 year old) and Laphroaig (think he's had the 10 year old).
Hope that helps
Thanks

I think an older Highland Park might be ideal in that case, both the 21 and the 25 year olds are within your budget at The Whisky Exchange.
If he enjoys Lagavulin and Laphroaig because of their powerful smoke/peat characteristics he may be a bit underwhelmed by older bottles from these distilleries because they tend to be subtler. That's just my personal opinion though. |

I will 2nd Johns suggestion of the Highland Park 25, a brilliant whisky and it looks great in its wooden box, your husband will know he is getting something special just by the look.
A few others i would suggest within your price range that are truelly superb in my opinion and will be enjoyed by anyone who likes whisky: Benriach 30 year old, Glenlivet 21 & 25 year old |

I vote for Highland Park, the older bottlings are fantastic so much character in each dram. _________________ The Laga 16.

| Highland Park 25 is a fantastic whisky. Have you thought about buying a couple of bottles, you should be able to buy the Glenlivet 21 and a Highland Park 18 for your £200. |

Thank you so much for all your suggestions, that's been very helpful.
I think I will go for the Highland Park 25 as several of you have recommended that. I will let you know what he thinks to it! His birthday isn't until 28th May though so i'll pop back on after then to let you know.
Thanks again, much appreciated
