Talisker -Bottling for Friends

Hi

Anyone got any more info on this new bottle? Seem a bit steep for a NAS at £80, but it does have some unique points (48% Vol etc).

Anyone tried it?

I had the Talisker 12 Friends of Classic Malts 45.8% version a couple of years ago and it was superb but so is the standard 10 year and costs much less. I didnt realise they had done another Talisker 12 Friends of Classic Malts but a 48% version, i am sure you wont be disappointed if you get a bottle but you may be like me and wonder whether it was worth the extra over the standard 10 year old and if the money would have been better spent on the Talisker 57 North

Only just available to order so I doubt anyone had tried it. 4500 through friends and 4500 at the distillery. NAS and hopefully better than recent Talis which, IMHO, are rubbish.

£80 for a NAS whisky. Sounds like horrendous value once more. I can only imagine it will sell out in no time at all and reappear on the auction sites such as the new one Graham keeps posting about (2 posts, and both about your auction site. Good job you don't look like your posting here for personal gain and adding nothing of value to the forum ) at twice + the retail price.

Maybe im just grumpy, maybe im looking for the bad in everyone and everything, but is it just me who sees the problems with the industry and the direction it's heading at the moment?

The new Talisker Friends of the Classic Malts has been released this month along with a Royal Lochnagar Friends of the Classic Malts bottling. They are part of a series of 5 bottles exclusively available to the Friends of the Classic Malts. 3 more bottles will be released over the next 6 months but i dont have the details yet of what distilleries they will be from. Only a few thousand bottles of each expression are being produced: no more than 24,000 bottles are available in total across the five editions. I expect that Talisker will be one of the more sought after bottlings so i would guess there will be slightly more of these available.

All of the 5 Friends of the Classic Malts bottlings have all been triple matured. Firstly in refill casks. Then transferred to charred American oak hogsheads, then a third maturation in European Oak refill casks. All were bottled at 48% ABV.

I've been a member of FotCM for years, I can't see this 'exclusive' as a benefit. I'd prefer to get vouchers or tasting invites as an incentive.

I would have to taste the new Talisker Friends bottling before putting out £80. I am a huge fan of Talisker so another expression is always welcome but i had the last Talisker Friends 12 year old bottling which was ok but i thought the standard 10 year old was just as good if not better and much cheaper. This being a no age statement doesnt inspire me to pay £80 given the excellent no age higher strength Talisker 57 North is cheaper.

I am open minded if i get the chance to taste it or hear it is a cracker then i will give it a try. I have never been a fan of Royal Lochnagar though and i amquite surprised they have chosen this to be a special Friends bottling
