I noticed for the first time in the LCBO, a bottle on the shelf of Macallan Ruby for $300. Canadian, about 172 pounds equivalent. Looks like about 400 bottles available for Ontario which is quite a few considering how stock of some single malt expressions here is low from the get go. Not a good deal here if one considers Master of Malt has it going for 118 pounds. Will pass on this one though I have heard it is quite an excellent dram.
I thought that for the holiday season they might give us a break here on something like this NAS expression. Your comments on the desirability of this one would be appreciated. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I've tried the Ruby and thought it was a very good dram. Excellent even. I just can't get past the fact it's NAS given the asking price. 3 figures is too much for me personally to spend on a bottle anyway but its just frustrating that they chsrge this for a NAS.
In my mind somewhere I'm trying to get my head into the right place to say judge a whisky on its quality rather than its age. But I can't help feeling that if nothing else the age of a whisky adds some gravitas toward the price, if on nothing more than warehouse storage space, and time for ROI.
I either want a fair deal on NAS whisky or more transparency on the contents of the bottle. A % age of the various ages of the whisky within would be perfect. |

| Murray the Macallan Sienna is also very good, £65 this side of the water, not sure what you would have to pay.in Ontario but certainly worth a try if you are a Macallan fan. |

It's 100 pounds equivalent here. For that price I bought the superb Ardbeg Galileo here the other day. No contest there. The Sienna is definitely overpriced here. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

| Murray i can highly recommend both the Sienna and classic big sherried Ruby. I am not a fan of NAS, i do think price tags this big should be justified by age statements. Having said that with my experience of the Macallan there is no way these are young whiskies they are trying to palm off here. If you like the Macallan these are 2 outstanding examples. |
