|
Bowmore, Islay's first Single Malt Scotch whisky, has announced the launch of The Devil's Casks - a devilishly delicious dram which has been matured exclusively - and unusually - for 10 years in the finest first fill sherry casks. This non chill-filtered, small batch release is bursting with Bowmore's hot and fiery characteristics, deep mahogany colour and rich fruitcake flavour.
Created to celebrate one of Islay's most famous tales - a story shrouded in myth and legend - 6,000 bottles of The Devil's Casks will be released in October, just in time for Halloween.

Sounds like something I would like and a possible sherry bomb to boot.

If the 23yo port cask was RRP £380 with 12,000 bottles any guesses how much this one will be?
I'm guessing £75. _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

I'm guessing £75. | bifter, i got all the info on this earlier today, the RRP on it is £50.99, 6000 bottles worldwide with 540 bottles available here in the UK. With 10 year's maturation in first fill sherry casks i am looking forward to trying this one especially as it has been bottled at 56.9% ABV. I will let you know what i think when i taste it.
I suspect it will sell quickly here in the UK with only 540 bottles so i wouldnt hang around if you are interested. I would guess it will be in the usual outlets such as The Whisky Exchange. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

Thanks, William. That's actually a very fair price given the strength and how limited the release is. I haven't been too enamoured of the sherried Bowmores I've tried from SMWS but they are, through intention, usually atypical casks. I did enjoy the Enigma though. _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

| I have always been impressed with the Bowmore Tempest small batch releases and the Bowmore Darkest and Enigma are very good so high hopes for this one, but sherry is always one that can go wrong i suppose. |

| Just how i like it, an up front age statement, high ABV and drinkable price tag. If i hear this is good i will be looking for a few bottles. |

Good point! Hopefully William can keep us to the wise with his review about the presence of any "struck matches". No pressure William _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

No pressure William | I am hoping this will be a good one, i will certainly let you know what i think when i taste it. I have been told that there is a sample in the post. I am guessing that the peat will be quite subtle going by Bowmores own tasting note which doesnt mention the peat. You can read Bowmores tasting note here:

Just phoned my local shop and told them to put a bottle past for me when it arrives. I don't think the 540 bottles for the UK will be enough and can see some of the other bottles being held back, unless William says it isn't up to much. _________________ Putting the func in dysfunctional. |

| Good to see a original distillery bottling bottled at this strength and not with a rip off price tag and should be an interesting one if you like the sherried whiskies like i do. |
