Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has ever been to any of the events at this festival.

If so, which ones would you recommend and is there any you would perhaps avoid?

Hi Richard,
I have been going for a few years now, best tip I can give you is when the events go live get in quick, the site crashed for about 30 mins last year.
I think the events will be listed next Wednesday, then on sale Saturday.

We attended the Glenfarclas Family Casks event last year, well worth doing as we tasted some very old whiskies.
Visting a Distillery which is not usually open to the public is quite good.
They had a hub site in Aberlour which was also useful, the transport is a lot better than a few years back.

Some good advive from STUDOGG37, i cant say that there is anything to avoid at the Spirit of Speyside whisky festival. Obviously the better events will be the ones with a whisky which you enjoy more.

My brother is heading to the spring festival this year and has been to a few, he tried to tempt me over this year. I would say the best events will be the ones which you have the taste for their whisky as William suggests.

I would recommend the Glen Moray BBQ as an event on the Saturday night, It's not a tasting of limited editions etc like a lot of the during the day stuff but is a great laugh.

You can purchase tickets for the various events during the festival via the site and some tickets are very limited which causes a surge of visitors to the site when the events program goes live.

Website has all the events online now, but you cannot buy any tickets until Saturday 7pm. Last year when it went live for buying tickets, the site crashed. Some events have a limited amount of tickets.

My plans are, Tormore on the Friday morning, Aviemore tasting event at night.
The Glendronach event on Saturday morning, we will repeat the 3 course lunch + 3x drams at the Aberlour hall, great food/drams, all served up by locals.
Sunday not sure yet, but going to Dufftown.
Monday, maybe the Macallan visit.

I notice that when some of the events finish in Dufftown another one starts.

for example. The Glenfiddich pioneer tour finishes at 5:30pm whilst the whisky tasting with carn mor starts at 5:30pm.

Would it be frowned upon if we turned up late to an event?

Hi whisky_rob,

We are booked on the Tormore event so come and say hello, we will be based in Aviemore so Mrs is driving as the transport is very poor from that area, if you need a lift onwards let me know, we should be heading into Dufftown for a wee while.

We did the Glenfarclas event last year, but not with George Grant, you will enjoy it.

Bit gutted I have missed out on the Glendronach tasting event, had it in my basket but disappeared when I went to pay. Booked the Glenrothes vintage vattings instead but I have been in contact with the festival to see if they can do anything.

That's too bad about Glendronch, that was one of a few events that sold out instantly.

The Glenfarclas decades tasting sounds awesome with drams from the 1950's thru to the 10's so that will be my 1st ever taste of 1950's whisky! Or 60's whisky for that matter.

Yeah Tormore is a pain transport wise, we might have a driver that day as we need to get to Glenburgie on the Friday afternoon, but might take you up on your most generous offer.

Cheers

Rob

You're so lucky, I tried a Glenfarclas 1968 late last year and it was an absolutely stunning dram. Haven't had anything from the 50s though.

On a slightly irrelevant note, the crazier whisky prices become in general, the more respect I have for Glenfarclas and its amazing (and affordable) older whiskies.
