GO,

Lol I've never had the Glenfarclas as it's hit and miss here in Canada...

But if one were to choose between the 2 for 10 pound difference which would one choose??

I realize the majority answer will be up to personal taste, which I understand and agree but was just curious if there was an outright hands down no question winner.

Thanks!!

-Steve

Interesting question. I'd probably choose the farclass if pushed. Both in sure outstanding whiskies which I've never tried. Yet if you're reading this bifter *hint hint*

Don't know what I can add, I have a bottle of the Glenfarclas but it will remain sealed until my birthday. I have tried the Highland Park and it is some dram. Perhaps a bit of damp cardboard but I think most whiskies of this age have that and the complexity more than makes up for it.

Worth checking Amazon. I saw the Glenfarclas 40 on there for £260 the other month .

I have had both and both are outstanding and both are different, for me it isnt a case of which one is better than the other as i said both are outstanding but if made choose i would go for the Glenfarclas 40.

Steve, there is no outright hands down no question winner between the 2 of them IMO, as others have said both are outstanding. If i had to make a choice i would go the Glenfarclas 40.

The Highland Park 30 is superb but i would go for the Highland Park 25 before the 30, that is if you could get hold of it as it is out of stock in many of the usual outlets.

Thanks for your opinions so far guys!

-William why would you go for the 25 V the 30?

And does anyone have personal tasting notes (or a comparison perhaps to a bigger distillery) for the glenfarclas, as mentioned I have never been able to get a hold of any age statement here in Canada yet so not sure what I am in for.

Thanks!!

I have gotten through a couple of bottles of both the Glenfarclas 40 and Highland Park 30 and my personal choice would be the Glenfarclas based on personal taste for the Glenfarclas style of whisky.

Both are superb drams and for your money and considering its age the Glenfarclas is brilliant. Having said that i think Highland Park are struggling these days to meet demand for their older whiskies such as the 30 year old which has seen its price shoot up and i think it will only get more expensive in the near future so if you ever want to taste it then perhaps it would be a good idea to buy a bottle now.

Or better still, £245 here - great price!

As you would expect from whiskies of this age they have big mature oaky character, the HP 25 has big mature oak, smoke and heather honey, chocolatey, fudge. The HP 30 is excellent , fruiter and more oak than the 25, i think it has had a bit more sherry influence than the 25. Both are brilliant but my personal choice would be the HP 25

Thanks guys!!

Understood that a this age range from these distilleries buying an OB it will pretty
Much be delightful no matter what.

That being said is there anything more main stream (available regularly at the lcbo) that one could compare the glenfarclas too??

Thanks again!!

Steve, forum member Quaich1 is in your part of the world and i have saw him post about a bar in Toronto which has a superb selection of single malt whisky, not sure if that is anywhere near you but if it is you may be able to sample some the the whiskies you are interested in.

Dont you have the Glenfarclas 17 available from your lcbo store, failing that something from Glendronach, Aberlour or Macallan can fall into the same same style grouping as Glenfarclas.

fbgreen is not a real shop, it is one of those affiliate marketing web siteswhich links to real shops, the Glenfarclas 40 year old it lists is actually available at The Drink Shop and the price is out of date.

Just a note to new and indeed old forum users if you are buying from The Drink Shop, The Whisky Exchange, Whisky Online and a few more listed on the Whisky Shops page here http://www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/shops.htm use the links from this website as it helps support the running costs of this website and forum

Cheers all.
