Here's a neat discussion of songs pertaining to Scotch and Whisky. Do you know any others? Any favorites?

Campbelltown loch was a party piece of a friend from Edinburgh , which I first heard in the blue mountains near Sydney Australia. The chorus line , campelltown loch I wish you were Whisky for I would drink you dry !

Nice thought ! I wonder what kind of Whisky it would be ! Top Malt

Cheers alan. Wink

You beat me to it, Andy Stewart sang it. It used to play on an old juke box in the pool room in the pub I frequented as a youth (don't ask if I was of legal age and I'll tell you no lies). These days it's the ringtone on my mobile.

I imagine the whisky should be Springbank, Glen Scotia or Glengyle surely?

I can offer up "Cigarettes, Whiskey and Wild Wild Women" though I don't know who sang it originally?

There are a few Irish songs which mention whiskey, everyone will know Whiskey in the Jar which has been covered in various versions by many artists, some famous versions are by Thin Lizzy, The Dubliners and The Pogues. Here is the Thin Lizzy version:

For me Campbeltown Loch is the classic Scotch whisky song.

Here is Andy Stewart singing it

Not a whisky song but i found this while looking for Andy Stewart singing Campbeltown Loch. Think of it as a warning against drinking too much Laughing

Here is another classic Irish folk song about whiskey,

Whiskey, you`re the devil
Hey, whiskey you're the devil You're leading me astray
O'er hills and mountains into Amerikay
Your sweetness from the bleachner You're spunkier than tea,
Ah, whiskey you're me darlin', drunk or so-ber

Kenny, I really enjoyed your link. They do a great rendition of the tune.
Very Happy

Before this thread becomes toooooo stale, I was just listening to a bit of Steely Dan and caught a good whisky (specifically Scotch) reference. It's also where the band Deacon Blue got their name incidentally:

I'll learn to work the saxophone
I'll play just what I feel
Drink Scotch whisky all night long
And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in the world
I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide
Call me Deacon Blues

Steely Dan - Deacon Blues

I'm on a roll, another one just occurred to me!

And then I sit there, drinkin', gettin' high, mellow, knocked out, feelin' good
About that time I looked on the wall, at the old clock on the wall
About that time it was ten-thirty then, I looked down the bar at the bartender, he said
"What do you want down there?", one bourbon, one scotch, and one beer...

John Lee Hooker - One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer
