Auchentoshan 1999 Bordeaux cask,
Matured for 11 years in French oak casks from chateau Lagrange,
Bottled at 58% and NCF .

Nose.. It's different.. Sweet, oaky, vanilla, a massive fruity kick, grape and a hint of apples,
shut your eyes and it takes you to an old French farm house, fresh baked bread on a rustic old oak table, a large glass of Whisky ( instead of wine ) the late evening sun just over the top of the hills, vines swaying in the evening breeze, just delightful..

Palate.. Wow, A fresh, smooth sweet fruit kick, full of grape, apples, vanilla, a soft oaky hint with a faint touch of spice,

Finish.. A fresh medium dry finish,

Just delightfully fresh and fruity, it just seems to work .. A lovely summertime dram...

Sorren, your characterization of this dram sounds most appealing and one I'm sure I would like very much. Cheers.

Painting pictures with words there. Sounds devine.

Does it hold water well? I've tried a few cask strength Toshans and some I've felt wah out all too easy with water. Not sure if it's the lightness of the spirit.

To be honest I very rarely add water, I just prefer it as it comes, I have added a little water and it was fine, but I wouldn't over do the water, I always feel with Auchentoshan it's great as it comes because it's so light..
