Noticed this on Glenfarclas' twitter and Facebook, basically a limited edition beer aged in Glenfarclas casks. You can buy from the link below, I know it's not single malt whisky but didn't know where to put it as thought would be of interest to Glenfarclas fans.

I bought one pack as I am a fan of these beers aged in whisky casks, although £10 delivery seems a bit steep.
Regards

| They also do a range of Highland Park cask aged beer, they have beer aged in 12, 16 and 18 year old Highland Park casks, i have never tried any but would be fascinated to know if the influence of the aged whisky comes through in the beer. |

| I've had the Tullibardine one, they sell it in Asda. I didn't get much influence from the cask at all to be honest. Nice enough beer mind. |

Rob, next time let me know before you order any, I only live 2 miles away, I am sure I could collect them for you. I used to drink in my local with the founder Ken many years ago in Dollar. _________________ You can't push anyone up the ladder unless he is ready to climb himself. |

The best beer I have had where I could taste a whisky undertone was the 'Wolf of Glen Moray' by a local brewer, Windsweept in Lossiemouth. That was a single cask beer if you will which was aged for 10 months in a Glen Moray Cask and was excellent!!
I have tried the Ola Dubh Haverston beer (Aged in ex-highland park casks) and although nice found the whisky flavours pretty weak although to be fair there was a hint of sherry as mentioned in their tasting notes for the 18. Ola Dubh is aged for 6 months versus the 10 months for the Windsweept one and is also a 'vatting' I believe rather than a single cask, although to be fair I have no idea if that will make too much difference.
I'm making an assumption here based on no proof whatsoever but must assume that like a whisky, beer will get more flavour from the cask the longer its in there and the type of cask has influence over the beer to some degree rather than the whisky that was in there in the first place. By the last bit I mean it's hardly a surprise getting a hint of sherry from a beer thats been in a sherry cask for 6 months!
Regarding the Glenfarclas beer I rather stupidly got this delivered to my home address and currently working in or around London for the next 6 weeks so will let you know when I finally get to taste it! |
