Arran whisky have announced their first new release of 2014, a limited edition Arran 17 year old. This limited edition of 9,000 bottles worldwide follows last years release the Arran 16 year old. This is the 2nd release in the trilogy which will eventually lead to an official bottling of Arran 18 year old.

Also I am sure a few of you will not want to miss the third and final instalment of The Devil's Punchbowl Trilogy which is expected to be released at the end of June 2014. Will it be a heavenly end to this Devilish Trilogy, we will find out in June.

I've had some good and some less than goo2 Arrans from the SMWS. I've tried hard to really like it but I just can't seem to.

I thought with age it might get better but even the 16yos I've tried recently haven't blown me away. I picked one up for me old man which I thought was excellent but othet than that I'm not the biggest fan.

Any idea of price on this one?

I have an unopened bottle of Arran's The Sleeping Warrior. Hope to get around to it this year.

Arran havent revealed the price yet but as the Arran 16 was £60 if i remember correctly i would say it will be at least £60, but that is just my guess i may be way out.

Arran say that the new 17 year old is from 100% sherry casks, the 16 year old was 70% matured in bourbon and 30% in sherry which will make the 17 quite a different whisky from the 16. I tried a Arran 15 last year from a sherry cask which was exclusive to The Whisky Shop and it was pretty good stuff, of course it was bottled at 50 something % which can make quite a difference.
