A friend has recently purchased a spirit aerator / enhancer and lent it to me for an evening.
His opinion was that it smoothed and improved the whisky. I put a glass of 12 year Highland Park through it and felt it took something away - as if it had been watered down - not impressed.
Never heard or read of anyone enthusing about these gadgets - any opinions? |

| My opinion is that it would do nothing but i havent tried it. I really dont see how it would improve your whisky, i would think it is a gimmick which probably doesnt do what it claims. |

| I cant see this doing anything, i cant see any contraption being able to put air into the whisky and the air staying there, nonsense i think, i agree with Andy M it is a gimmick that probably wont work and is more likely to reduce your enjoyment by passing your whisky through it. I will do it the old fashioned way, swirl my whisky around my glass increasing the aromas omitted from the whisky clinging to the side of the glass. |

The only aerators I use are to keep minnows alive in the pail when I'm fishing.

What do you generally fish for Murray? Your twitter pic looks a fairly sizable catch! |

Alun, my prime game is King Salmon, 20 to over 30 pounds. These fish hit the line like a freight train and can take out 300 feet of line in 10 seconds. My reels are special with 1200 feet of line-very high test. It's like having a jeep on the end of your line. My record is 30 plus pounds, 4 feet long and a girth of 19 inches. After one of these, scotch is more to repair the body than for taste.

Nice. I've done some fishing in my dim and distant past though not a great deal. Some pond fishing for carp, tench, perch etc and some fly fishing for trout. To be fair my father is a fisherman rather than I, my fishing exploits were ask with him. I just didn't take to it. |

Aerators are a tricky idea, for red wines they are supposed to improve them. Yet we also know that red wine can be greatly diminished with oxidation, I have had a nice bottle of red become disgusting in the matter of an hour and a half. For whisky you do not want the body to become thinner, for some regions that could cause a serious change to the flavors and just the level of enjoyment we get out of the whisky itself. So to sum everything up avoid them, a waste of money. _________________ The Laga 16.
