|
|
Speyburn Distillery has unveiled a £4 Million expansion programme to meet the growing global demand for its whisky. The £4 Million distillery investment will more than double Speyburn's current production as well as significantly reduce the distillery's energy consumption per litre of alcohol and improve its carbon footprint.

| I have only ever tried the Speyburn 10 which was ok. Doubling production shows quite a confidence in increased future sales. |

There isnt a big demand for it here in the UK so you could easily assume that it is a feeder distillery for blended whisky but that is not the case, Speyburn single malt is very popular overseas, particularly the US. It is a top 10 best selling Scotch single malt in the US, usually sits around number 5 best seller which is pretty good considering it competes in a market with big brands such as Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Glenmorangie and the Balvenie but i think Speyburns position may be dropping as demand for single malt in the US increases and Speyburn simply probably cant keep up, hence the plan to double production.
If any Speyburn does find its way into any blended whisky i would guess it will be the owners Inverhouse Distillers blends which are Hankey Bannister, Catto's and MacArthurs. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

| Well there you go then. I have seen very very few Spayburn malts over here, so yes my assumption was that it was a feeder for one of the blends. |

My man at Mortlach tells me they are also doubling capacity, with I think 3, if not 4 new expressions being released this year (possibly as a result of Johnnie Walker not using their whisky...) |
