Thoughts please people, what do you all think are the best value heavily sherried malts out there right now?

I did enjoy the Glenfarclas 15 I had recently, and thankfully not a whiff of sulphur. I'm after something similar and wondered what you all thought.

Thanks in advance.

I would say the best sherry bomb for your money is the Aberlour A'bunadh but if you are after something a bit more refined then the Aberlour 16 and 18 are excellent.

Glendronach is great - the 15 year-old (Revival) in particular. It's great value for money, especially considering that current batches are older than 15 years old, as a result of the distillery being closed from 1996 to 2001. The Glendronach 12 is probably my favourite entry-level sherry bomb from any distillery.

The best sherry bomb I've ever had was a single cask Glenfarclas from 1968, but as that was a one-off experience my money is still on Glendronach. Having said that, Glenfarclas never disappoints either - the 30 is my favourite core range Glenfarclas, and the 15 is great as well. The 21 is more subtle, not really a sherry bomb, but certainly worth it too.

I'm not a fan of the Aberlour 10 but I have to concur that the a'bunadh is excellent.

MJ, I would highly recommend Glenfarclas 105, a cask strength delightful sherry bomb at a reasonable price. It goes in the UK for about 41 pounds. I bought my bottle in Quebec Canada during a visit there from Ontario and I think I paid just under $100. Canadian a year ago.

Most batches of abunadh are fantastic, some are a little tainted but for value it's this or the farclass 15, if you can push the boat then the Glenfarclas 40 is prob as good as it gets for me, but look out for the new balvenie 15 single barrel from sherry buts, I expect them to be pretty good !! Not sure when the release date is though..

In the past when asked to recommend a good sherried whisky i would have instantly said the Macallan 10 but that has gone now. I would agree with the suggestions above, Aberlour and the Glendronach offer some great sherried malts and the Aberlour a'bunadh certainly fits the description "sherry bomb"

My favorite sherried malts are from GlenDronach distillery, particularly their Single Cask Bottlings. Other good value is Glengoyne.

In my mind the Glendronach 12 has replaced the Macallan 10 as the most recommendable entry-level sherried malt, and all the better for being non chill-filtered too. Glenfarclas is great too of course but their younger bottlings aren't really sherry bombs.

I would say the Macallan Ruby is the sherry bomb in the Macallan range now and it is superb. Another big sherried dram is the Glengoyne 21.

At the more affordable dramming end of the the price scale the Aberlour A'bunadh and the Glenfarclas 105 which Murray mentions above are 2 great whiskies and can certainly be considered sherry bombs.

Indeed, I was factoring in value for money as well - the Macallan 10 used to be around £30, which is roughly the price of the Glendronach 12. The new Macallan range, sadly, isn't as affordable.

If you buy the Glendronach 12 year, check to see when it was bottled, if it was in 2013 it should be around 16/17 years, as it was mothballed during 1996-2002.

After a recent visit to Glendronach they confirmed the above, I have a 12yr (2013) bottle open and it is a cracking dram for around £32.

How about the Glendronach 15 Revival, is it good. Looking for a sherry bomb to balance out my selection.

I wouldnt describe it as a sherry bomb, but i guess that depends on the individuals opinion of how heavily sherried a whisky should be to be described as a sherry bomb. It is a superb sherried whisky which i would hesitate to recommend.

Marks suggestions of the Macallan Ruby and Glengoyne 21 would fall into my idea of a sherry bomb but these arent priced for everyday dramming for that the brilliant brilliant Aberlour A'bunadh and Glenfarclas 105 are a couple of whiskies worthy of the title sherry bomb.

Thanks Mac, will give them a try.

I got plenty of stuff to look forward to, including more money coming in soon for a sherry bomb.
