Hi William. Sounds interesting. A little older than the first release and a little stronger too, may be just what it needs. What other distilleries use Bere barley?

Alistair, that's very interesting. Based on your comment , I looked further and found 2 bottles:

Bruichladdich Bere Barley 2006
Kynagarry Farm

Bruichladdich Bere Barley 2008
UHI Orkney Farms

I tried the new Arran Bere Barley at the distillery a couple of weeks ago and it is absolutely excellent stuff. The bere barley gives an almost creamy nose and taste with an unusual spicy tang.

I also have a bottle of the Bruichladdich Bere Barley 2006, which I just cannot get along with. It has a strange farmyard note to it which hasn't eased after being open for 9 months.

There is definitely a very obvious similarity between the two that must come from the bere, shame that I don't enjoy the latter.

Interesting strain of barley, really harking back to a bygone generation. Having had the original Arran Bere release I thought it could benefit from an older age and higher strength so we'll see...

It was supposed to be launched around the 10th as William had posted in the piece on the Arran Orkney Bere Barley then Arran posted the 17th November on their news blog but i am guess that the date has fell back again as i cant now see that post on Arrans blog and there is no sign of the whisky on Arrans web shop. I guess there has been a bit of a hold up with bottling and getting stock out to the shops but i am sure it will be available by the end of the month to catch the Christmas shoppers.

It has been and gone from the Arran website shop, so you will have to look at the other shops when it arrives.
