The Famous Grouse have announced the release of a limited edition Glenturret 28 year old single malt whisky to mark its sponsorship of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

This special bottling of just 1,800 bottles will be released under The Famous Grouse label but the whisky in the bottle is not your regular Famous Grouse blended whisky it is a single malt whisky which was distilled at the Glenturret distillery, home of The Famous Grouse Experience. Distilled in 1986 and aged for 28 years and bottled at Cask Strength, making this a true collector's edition.

This 28 year old cask strength single malt whisky will be presented in a bespoke gift box that tells the story behind the whisky and its connection to the Commonwealth Games and will be available from high-end specialist retailers with a RRP £150

Hi William. This one sounds quite interesting really. It equates to about $275.00 Canadian which is really not bad for an almost 30 year old limited release cask strength single malt scotch. It would be neat to try a dram. However, I think If it ever came to the Canadian market it would probably increase to a price point well over $300.00 Canadian that would make it less appealing to the pocket book. I have had some different Famous Grouse expressions and even though they were blends they were appealing in their own right, the Famous Jubilee and The Black Grouse Alpha.

This is actually decent value - taking the commemorative aspect out of the equation, £150 for a 28-year old cask strength single malt is not bad at all.

I think this will sell quickly. Murray there was a Famous Grouse blended malt a few years ago which was ok for the price, not sure if it was available in Canada

Thks for the tip.

Did you see that they are also selling 30yr old Blended Malt at a special price of £95. That's got to be good value when the backbone malts are specifically stated as HP and Macallan. Don't see it in other stores, so think that they are clearing through.

This Edition seems to have been recalled and re-issued.

As I now have a bottle of each I notice that the 28year old statement on the box has been removed.

Also the label on the bottle has been altered to state Distilled in 1986 , Bottled in 2014 instead of 28 year old.

I have no idea how many of the 28 year old bottles were sold but I suspect that it would not have been many.

It appears that there is a Limited Edition within a Limited Edition which must eventually add to there value.

Perhaps they sold out the 1800 bottles of the 28 year old and released a 2nd batch which was distilled in 1986 and bottled in 2014 but fell short of 28 years of age. I would be interested to hear what the Famous Grouse have to say about it.

Very interesting Jim, are both bottles Cask Strength and are they both the same strength?
