Last night I attended the last dinner and tasting at my single malt scotch club in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario until the Fall. The dinner was really quite excellent. There was one change in terms of the 3 whiskies presented.
Here's my taste notes from last night:
Glencoyne 12 Year Sherry Cask
Neat
Nose: Slices of apricot, orange peel, rum and raisin and generalized citrus and marmelade.
Palate: Warming, waves of spice and pleasant cedar chest.
Finish: Lingering, ginger burst and mouth watering.

Tullibardine 500 sherry finish, first fill 500 litre butt 2013
Neat
Nose: Whiffs of parfume, aromatic pipe tobacco, dark plum and cherry blossoms.
Palate: Strawberry ripple ice cream and apple n' spice.
Finish: Lingering, creeping mild spice, Granny Smith apples and stewed rhubarb reminiscences.
***************************************************************************************
Spice Tree Blended Malt by Compass Box 46%abv
Neat
Nose: Fruit cocktail, pipe tobacco, kiwi fruit, apricots and honey dew melon.
Palate: Fruity, mild spice, fruit juice and surprising driftwood essences.
Finish: Medium finish, lemon wedges and light citrus furniture polish.
I enjoyed the Tullibardine most last night partly I believe because it melded so well with the baked salmon. I can also easily see this one as a dessert dram. The Glencoyne is a
solid dram. The Spice Tree for me seemed to be more fruity than spicy but was nonetheless a pleasant easy to drink dram. It's interesting that Jim Murray rates this one at 95.5. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

You're a nice bloke but sometimes I really hate you ......its a jealousy thing I guess.
I've had the spice tree a few times and totally agree, it's actually very good but not as good as Jimbob rates. Must be a batch thing, different parcels used in the malt vatting each have time. Still good for its price, big flag waver for Compass Box, they produce some outstanding whisky.
