Am looking to buy a nice single malt for my best man and was wondering if anyone would be able to offer any recommendations. His go to whisky is Glenmorangie so any suggestions of ones that have a similar flavour profile for around £60 would be very much appreciated

I'd suggest Balblair for a similar flavour profile to Glenmorangie. For just under £60 you can get either the 1997 or the 1999 vintage. Both vintages are about 15 years old and display Balblair's classic light fruity notes.

A few suggestions i would make which can be found over at The Whisky Exchange which i am sure your friend would like are:

Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Distillery Edition
Glenlivet 18 Year Old
AnCnoc 16 Year Old
Balblair 1997 2nd Release
Old Pulteney 17 Year Old

I would do Old Pultney 17.

Wish my mate did this for me when I was his best man.

Just a follow-up to my first reply - the Old Pulteney 17 that others recommend is very good, but if you want to get something similar to Glenmorangie this isn't it.

Outstanding. One of my whiskies of the year. Really fruity, juicey and a touch of earthiness. One I'd buy again in a heartbeat when my rotation gets to it....If there are any left. It's in gage so once it's gone, it's gone.

Glenmo nectar d'or is pretty good too and is about 45 quid. Not near the Balblair though.

No 2 whiskies are the same but i would put Old Pulteney in the same flavour category as Glenmorangie both are medium bodied, medium sweet, with fruity, spicy notes and floral, nutty hints. As i said no 2 whiskies are the same but if you are a fan of Glenmorangie then i would say it is a sure bet that you would like the Old Pulteney 17 which is a superb whisky IMO.

The Balblair 1997 2nd release is another good recommendation.

Of course, no two whiskies are the same - I was very careful to use the word 'similar' instead. In my opinion Balblair is closer to Glenmorangie than Old Pulteney is. With Old Pulteney (both the 12 and 17, haven't had anything else) I always get a distinct salty, savoury note that in my opinion is absent from the various expressions of Balblair and Glenmorangie I've tried.

I do agree that Old Pulteney 17 is superb though.

I find there is a bit saltiness mixed in with the fruitiness of the Old Pulteney 17 which you dont find in the Glenmorangie, i would also say the Old Pulteney 17 is an excellent recommendation for someone who likes Glenmorangie, in fact all the recommendations above are top notch.

What i have noticed when asked to recommend a malt whisky in a certain price range i now have to check prices before making the recommendation as prices go up so fast now. Not so long ago when asked to recommend something for £60 you would have saw a list of 18 year old and even a few 21 year whisky's recommended, now very few 18 year olds and i can only think of Glenfarclas or Tomintoul 21 year olds which would just about make a list of list for £60, depends were you shop.

japiers the Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Distillery Edition, Glenlivet 18 Year Old, AnCnoc 16 Year Old William lists are all safe bets to be liked and all are excellent quality whiskies. The Balblair 1997 2nd Release and Old Pulteney 17 Year Old are superb also and both have similar characteristics to the Glenmorangie but the Balblair more so and as others have said the Balblair 1997 is particularly good.

Thanks very much for all the suggestions, I really appreciate the advice

Decided to go for the Balblair 1997 2nd Release but reckon I might have to get myself a bottle of the Old Pulteney when my finances have recovered from the wedding!

Cheers
