Hi all, I'm pretty new to drinking whisky and after some suggestions please. Currently have 3 bottles in rotation with the idea of them not being alike, with my very basic thought on them below:
Glenfiddich 15 - Easy drinking, light fruity.
Ardbeg 10 - Kick in the face by someone who just stamped on a fire. Probably my favourite.
Glenfarclas 15 - Heavy fruity/raisins.
The Ardbeg runs out soon, what should replace it? Ardbeg ug is the obvious option I think.
Doesn't need to be mega peaty, but probably needs at least a hint of smoke to be something different from the other 2.
Cheers for any ideas/comments! |

How about Talisker 10 or HP12.
Nicely priced too. |

If you haven't tried Lagavulin 16, perhaps the time has come.

Ta for replies.
Talisker 10 - tried once, wasn't that impressed, might try in a pub again and see.
HP 12 - This is on my list of readily available in supermarket at lowish cost, for next time anyone asks if I want anything, so don't want to buy myself! Perfect Christmas present..
Laga 12 - Good option and tried and enjoyed at a pub, but similar priced to the Ardbeg Uge, which I haven't seen in a bar and would probably prefer to buy and try.
Any other suggestions? |

A real gem is the Caol Ila Distiller's Edition Moscatel in the general price range you are talking about. Another beauty is Glenfarclas 105, 60%abv. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

| I think you should enjoy Caol Ila, they have a quality range. The entry level 12 year old is excellent or if you have a look over at The Whisky Exchange they have the "Caol Ila Collection" which is 3x20cl, one 20cl bottle of each of the 12, 18 and Cask Strength. All great drams and a good way to get to know the range. Good value for £49.95 when you look at the price of the full size bottles of these 3 whiskies. |

| A few peaty ones which i enjoy are Lagavulin 16, Laphroaig 10 or Quarter Cask, Port Charlotte Scottish Barley, Bowmore 12 and the Ardbeg Uigeadail is outstanding. |

I would say Caol Ila 12 or Talisker 10. _________________ The Laga 16.

| Some fine suggestions - I'd suggest the Talisker 10 as it never disappoints. For the price the Ardmore Traditional cask is good value or one of the new peated expressions from anCnoc. |

Highland Park 12 was my first taste of really good single malt. Loved it. Still do.
Then Talisker 10, my first taste of peat. Loved it even more! Still do. Now I am trying and buying every Islay I can. Love the Ardbeg Uigeadail. Very powerful peat and smoke (but rich from being sherry matured). You'll love it or you won't. |

It was mainly produced for the North American market i believe and we used to have until recently a 10 year old version but that has been discontinued here in the UK and replaced by a no age statement Macallan. We can still get hold of the Macallan 12 here from whisky specialist shops but we £75 for it which is around US$125 |

I agree with Calder. This is a good one. My last bottle of the Macallan 12 is getting low and it's no longer available in Ontario Canada. All NAS Macallans here at the moment. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I am not a big Macallan fan, in my opinion it is way too costly for what it is. However I did try the Macallan 18 and it is fantastic and I recommend it if you can afford it. _________________ The Laga 16.
