|
|
Hello All,
I hope someone on this forum can help me.
Sadly my husband passed away last August, my year got worse when in February my house was flooded. So that's the background......
My late husband was a whisky collector, and sadly his collection was caught up in the flood and worse still was contaminated by foul water. Now I have absolutely no idea what the collection was worth, or if indeed it was worth anything
He had no full bottles that I know about - as a scotsman he enjoyed a wee dram so would regularly sample and share his collection with guests and friends. Some of the bottles he inherited from his grandfather so I do believe some are of some significant age. I have 53 bottles in total.
I guess my question is what do I do now? My insurance company are being no help at all and the internet is not proving its normal font of knowledge. I have taken pictures of the bottles that are still recogniseable, but have not as yet got the ability to upload them to this site.
Any ideas or assitance would be welcome. |

Sorry to hear about your loss. I doubt that rare and collectable whisky would be covered on standard house contents insurance but everyones policy is different you may be covered. If the bottles were opened the insurance company could claim the contents were worthless before the flood as you couldnt resell the whisky and the value would be for the empty bottles which wouldnt be much, but no need to tell them the bottles were opened.
I am sure the folks here would be able to identify a few bottles if you can figure out how to post some pics. There is a guide on how to add a pic here
