I enjoyed the evening at my single malt scotch club in Niagara-on-the-Lake last night.
The drams we actually ended up having were:
Bowmore The Devil's casks Batch 1
Glen Garioch Single Cask 16 Year 54.6% abv Cask 206, only 288 bottles
Glenglassaugh Torfa 50%abv
Since I have posted my taste notes for The Devil's Casks in the past, I will just concentrate on the other 2 drams here.
Glen Garioch Single Cask 16 Year
Neat:
Nose: Flowery, eau de toilette (cologne), fruit cocktail, hint of pineapple, summer meadow, kiwi tones, papaya and salt water taffy.
Palate: Smooth, fruity, mild spice, oaky tones, lichee nuts, hint of mocha and shades of mild spruce beer.
Finish: Drying, oakiness builds to spicy oak, light fruit with effervescing sweetness.
Glenglassaugh Torfa
Neat-
Nose: Lemon-lime sherbet, coconut, peat, evergreens, pine needles and avocado.
Palate: Peat, citrus, mixed peels, spice with a subtle oakiness.
Finish: Long, citrus and peat, cedar notes and mint leaves.
Comments: The Glen Garioch at 16 years from a specialy selected cask was really a fine Eastern Highland's dram. The Torfa was a little unidimensional to me and could have used more aging in my opinion. It has some commonalities with Imperial 17 without the maturation.
The hit of the evening was clearly Bowmore The Devil's Casks 1. Most folks there had not tasted it before. I was sitting at a table with a number of women who without exception found it super. They experienced no whisky burn and in spite of the heavy peat and high abv, they found it delightful. These same women did not on the other hand enjoy the Torfa at all. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

| I have tried the Glenglassaugh Torfa at a tasting event, i enjoyed it, the peat worked in the Glenglassaugh but wasnt inspired enough to buy a bottle, some better young peaty stuff around for your money. |
