Hi all
Our daughter is expecting our first grandchild this year and I would like to buy a malt that was distilled in 1985 ( her birth year) and bottled in 2016 , which will be the first bottle of a collection I intend building for the baby.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Cheers john |

You're unlikely to find an official bottling of this type so it's best to look out for Independent bottlers. Given you're looking at a 30 year old whisky it's certainly not going to be cheap, I'm not sure of your budget but just be prepared.
There is a Longmorn 1985/2016 from Hunter Laings Old & Rare Platinum lineup knocking about at the moment for £285. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

That's great thanks for that information. I take your point re the possible high cost and I am aware of this and have a budget of £750 ish for a good bottle.
Any further suggestions please let me know.
Thanks again. |

If Glenfarclas put out a 1985/2016 family cask this year then that should be a forerunner....if not a given. Pretty hard to beat a well aged 'farclas to be honest and you shouldn't have a problem given your budget.
I need a farther-in-law like you!! _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

Been in touch with Glenfarclas and a 1985 cask is being bottled this week and will be available in about two months. The estimated price is very reasonable for a 31yr old. The contact with the distillery has been great, courteous and speedy so I'm very much looking forward to a site visit in a couple of months.
You never know I might even get a nice addition to my own collection. |
