Hi everyone
I thought it would be interesting to start a thread about which whiskies you didnt like or have been very disappointed with.
One whisky i really didnt think much of was Isle of Jura both the 10 & Superstition so i therefore wouldnt consider purchasing any of the more expensive Jura as i found the 2 i mentioned so poor, over loaded with caramel flavouring IMO.
So what havent you like or have been disappointed with?

Hi Lewis
It will be interesting to see which whiskies this thread shows up and how peoples tastes vary.
I have never been a fan of Jura either, i wouldnt say it is really bad but very disappointing and as you say a bit too much caramel.
I would never buy Tobermory or Ledaig again, i struggled to drink these, thought they were both quite bad.

I was disappointed by the Macallan fine oak 10 year old, it wasnt a bad drink but i found it bland and i expected it to be so much better.

I also found Tobermory and Ledaig quite poor drams like you Alastair.
I was a little disappointed with the Ardbeg Blasda not what i expect from Ardbeg but a decent enough dram in its own right.

To me Ledaig is the only whisky i have had which i would describe as bad.
I was a little disappointed in the Arran 10 but i am still keen to try their new sherried 12 year old. I was also dissapointed a little in the Macallan 10 fine oak.

Most recently i was disappointed in a bottle of Scapa 14 i had but i havent given up on it i will give it another go as in the past i have sometimes changed my opinion of a whisky when i have went back to it.
Mac, I thought the Arran 10 was a pretty good dram. I have heard good reviews from a mate on their new sherried 12.

Mark i found the Scapa 14 to be a pretty good malt, i would say it is certainly worth taking another look at.
Like others above i wouldnt rate the Jura 10 or Superstition very high but i wouldnt say it was bad. I think there have been bottlings in the past where there seems to have been a over use of caramel.

In my early whisky days I tasted a 5cl bottle of Te Beagh.
I still don't know if there was anything wrong with it, but I thought I was drinking out of a full ashtray. And believe me, I am a lover of the peated Islay taste so I have no idea what was wrong with this dram (or me at that time .)
It's the only glass of whisky I never finished
Edit:
One small mistake.
Te Beagh isn't a single malt but a blend |

I havent had Te Beagh myself but i had heard it was supposed to be ok, i believe it picked up a few awards when it came out. I know it is unusual for a blend as it is non-chilfiltered. I am unlikely to see it here though. Interesting that you found it so bad.

Hi Vcdman and welcome to the SMW Forum, it is a quiet little forum but i have learned a bit during my time here and have been directed to a few good whiskys by the forum which i may have otherwise have missed.
I have only had one bottle of Tamnavulin, i found it ok but nothing to shout about and i probably wouldnt consider purchasing it again. Your boring description probably does describe it well.
Anyway i hope you enjoy your time here.

The only 2 whiskies that i could describe as BAD are Loch Dhu and Drumguish. Another couple of whiskies which i didnt like much where Ledaig NAS and i always thought Jura was poor.
