The first bottle of whisky I bought was Glenfiddich 12, that was many years ago when it was special reserve, I still buy the odd bottle these days as a go to bottle to refresh my palate..

Talisker 18. The first whisky I liked was a Talisker at a friend's, and I saw the 18 at duty free later that year. Believe it or not it wasn't that much more expensive than the 10 (around 40 euros I think) so I went for the 18. Ah, those were the days!

Those were the days indeed, and not even that long ago. When I first started out I used to get a bottle of Lagavulin 16 and Talisker 18 for my birthday each year and there wasn't that much difference in price between the 2. You could pick them both up and still have change left from the current price of a Talisker 18.

First bottle I bought was a Balvenie 12 doublewood. It was a very long time ago, maybe 10 years back, but I'm sure I remember it be 43%....I've drank a lot of whisky since then so I may have it all wrong.

Moved on to Lagavulin 16 and Talisker 18 and then it all went from there.

my first bottle I have bought was in 1998 (when I was young!) @ the Highland Park Distillery on Orkney... HP 18.
Incredible how time flies...

You're probably right - my first Balvenie Doublewood was also 43%, but that's because it was from duty free. I believe they bottle it at 43% for the US market.

Hmm, I know it's 43% stateside but I'm in the UK and got it from a supermarket. Maybe I've drunk too much over the years and my memory had eroded Smile

Tweedale blend batch 1, 4.5 years ago, closely followed up by Talisker 10 a week later when I visited the distillery.

I believe I bought 2 bottles simultaneously the very first time I purchased my own scotch years ago and they were Lagavulin 16 and Glenmorangie 10 and the rest is history.

Lagavulin 16, after trying it in Scotland during my first visit a year and half ago.

Gee whizz .. how can I remeber that far back !!! Whisky is a great drink but it doesn't half reek havoc with my memory !
I'll have a stab at it being (the now dearly departed) Balvenie 10YO Founders Reserve - I am talking 25 years ago mind !! (I think I may still have a couple of bottles lurking in the back reaches of my collection Top Malt

Speyburn 10 yo. Which is not bad. But my first real bottle of good (Scotch) whisky, I would have to say . . . it was Highland Park 12. It is still at the top of my list after trying around 50 whiskies or so. The price is unbeatable for a taste this grand.
