Heres one for those of you with deep pockets, The Glenrothes Extraordinary Cask 1968 Cask No. 13507. It is the 3rd edition in BBR's Extraordinary Cask Collection series.
This one is from a re-fill hogshead Cask No. 13507 which was laid down on November 19th 1968. The cask yielded only 145 bottles which have been bottled at 41.9% ABV.
It has a price tag around £5,500 and should be available from the specialist whisky shop The Whisky Exchange

Hi William, an extraordinary single malt with an extraordinary price. Berry Bros. and Rudd do however put out some classy drams and even their more moderately priced whiskies are pretty good too. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

At 46 years it is the oldest Glenrothes I recall seeing, as I said one for those with deep pockets.
I have found some of the younger Glenrothes vintages a bit hit and miss quality wise, which has put me off exploring some of there older vintages, not that I would be considering the Glenrothes Extraordinary Cask 1968, that is for those with much deeper pockets than myself although I would love to try it. I haven't come across any reviews for the previous 2 bottling in this series so I doubt we will see a review for this one. I just thought i would mention it here as it is always interesting to hear about these bottlings even if you will never taste them. _________________ There's no bad whisky. There are some pretty nice bottles coming out of Glenrothes but this is one I won't be looking to buy anytime soon , I'm sure it's a mighty fine dram though.. |
