Yes ladies and gents, I'm selling a very precious bottle of whisky to finance a purchase of some ski equipment! I had meant to keep this bottle for a special occasion, but never got round to opening it... I bought it in 2013 from a collector.
Now, this is the very same cask (#710, from batch number 7) that Jim Murray said this about:
"The richness of the sherry is almost the stuff of make-believe...the delivery is of oak crashing in a forest - mighty and all-consuming:wow, this is like a big succulent bourbon matured in a top-class sherry butt. This is a malt which if you should ever chance upon, you give the guy your coat if you have not money enough; even your undergarments if it does the trick! For this is a whisky so complex, so complete, it is almost exhausting."?
He gave it 96/100
The bottle has been kept in a cool cupboard under the stairs, in pitch blackness.
Here's a picture of the bottle and container, both are pristine:

The last time this was up at auction, about 4 months ago, it fetched £680. http://www.scotchwhiskyauctions.com/store/product/71_the-40th-auction-ends-on-sunday-august-3-2014/42100_lot-400851-glendronach-1972-40-year-old/
I'm offering it for £700 plus postage (around £15). If it doesn't achieve this then I'm going to auction with it, as it'll get that and more.
Any questions, PM me!
Cheers,
Iain |

Hi Iain, a nice bottle you have but I would only use auctions as a very rough guide price, people can go a bit crazy.
If your bottle reached £750 at auction, it would be around a £670 return, which in fairness is not far away from your £700.
However at one retailer you can still buy this for just under £600 delivered, others seem to be just under £1000.
It is your bottle, but I would keep it at the moment and see how much the oldest batch 11 retails for.
If you go to auction good luck anyway. |

Thanks, Kas.
Delivered at under £600? The 1972 cask #710 40-year-old?
I'm not convinced by that! A bottle of the 39-year-old 1972 (inferior by all accounts) just sold at auction there for £800! My bottle looks a bargain!
Be interesting to see what batch 11 fetches.... When's it out? |

Yes I can confirm the 1972 40 year old is £590, which might have been the release price and has been gathering dust?.
Might buy this myself.
The batch 11 is just out, the oldest is the 1971 / 43 Year Old / Cask #2920, I have seen it at £850 (now sold out) and still in stock at around £960.
With the price of the above I'm sure you will get at least £750 at auction but nothing beats a simple cash deal. |
