Hi folks,
Want to get your opinion on JW Double Black. I brought a bottle of this to a party last weekend and really enjoyed it. As a drinker of primarily Islay single malts, I really enjoyed the typical JW smoothness but with some infused peatiness. For the price ($45 per bottle in Pennsylvania) this dram will always have a place on my shelf as a nice, mild pace changer.
Other opinions?? _________________ Stay malty folks! |

Greg, your impression of JW Double Black is IMO quite accurate. Unfortunately, it is not available here in Canada but I have had it and it is a very good dram. Jim Murray, the whisky guru from the Whisky Bible rates it highly. By the way, since you live in the USA, the Johnnie Walker XR21 (21 Year) is fantastic and is available in the USA at a very good price. I wrote an article about it that you may read at:

| The Johnnie Walker Double Black is an excellent blend, i do like the JW 12 Black Label but the extra smokiness in the Double Black version is very good and more than makes up for the lack of age statement at least it does for my taste. |

My dad drinks JW blacks almost exclusively (apart from when he comes round here!). His view is that this is consistently excellent and has no need to venture elsewhere. I have to say, I don't mind visiting him as I know there'll be a decent dram waiting! My fave is green label 15, sadly discontinued |

I've just received a bottle of Johnny Walker Double Black as a present.
Not something that I would have bought myself, but I am now excited to try a few drams tonight!
It will be the first blended whisky I've tasted in a long time. |

Hi Mark. My friend brought me back a litre bottle of JW Double Black Thursday from the Duty Free. I had this blend last year at a gathering and I really liked it. I'm sure you will too. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Excellent, thanks Quaich.
I always think that the best presents are the ones that you wouldn't buy yourself, but are pleased to receive for free! |

I really enjoy the 'Double Black' - picked up a few bottles a couple of years back when they were first released, I think I paid about £25 for each one in a Costco store.
I really enjoy Talisker malts and the JW Double Black is an excellent alternative, they're similarly priced in the supermarkets near me - but I expect much cheaper in duty free, where JW does most of it's selling. _________________ Slainte

Tried my first dram of this last night.
Having exclusively drunk single malt for the last couple of years, I do think I could detect a harshness that doesn't exist in the single malts that I've tried. I'm no expert at describing tastes, so I can't really describe exactly what I mean, it just seemed to be less 'pure' tasting.
That's not to say it didn't taste good though. This is certainly a flavoursome whisky! An impressive mix of smoke and spice which leaves a satisfying tingle on the tongue. |
