|
|
I am going to treat myself to an 'extra special' single malt this Christmas and (although I appreciate its not a kingly sum) have set a budget upto £200.
I do like a mix of tastes ranging from the peaty Islay Whiskies to the Light and Fruity Glenmorangie.
I am also a drinker of Jack Daniels (for those of you who are staunch single malt drinkers forgive me) but it does lend a certain draw to single malts that have also been aged in Bourbon casks.
Any suggestions on what whiskey fellow 'tipplers' would spend their £200 on? |

£200 is a lot mate, don't knock it! It's not daily dram territory.
I'd have a Balblair 1983 first release.
or as a bit of something special:

A bygone, and most wonderful, Ardbeg. Over priced now, but rare as rocking horse plop. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

| I would get a couple of distillery bottle your owns.. Maybe even 3.. Simple reason is .. Single cask, cask strength.. Hopefully no caramel.. NCF.. There are some real good offerings out there.. Glendronach, Tomatin, Auchentoshan, glen moray. There are s couple of new release limited releases like compas box " this is not a luxury whisky " .. I'm sure there will be some very good suggestions coming up soon.. |

A few excellent whiskies suggested already such as the Glenfarclas 25 and Glenlivet 25.
If you stretch your budget a little more here are a few more outstanding whiskies I would suggest such as:
Benromach 30 year old
Glenfarclas 30 year old
Bunnahabhain 25 year old
Glengoyne 25 year old
Glenmorangie 25 year old
Glen Ord 28 year old _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

All hail the Beastie! Love it. I have certainly contributed to its rareness over the years..!
Could go for a late 90's Glenfarclas family cask bottling? Heavy on the Sherry, cask strength....
Maybe something fun from SMWS (if you know someone who can buy you a bottle) - I love their stuff because it is often very different to what the distillery would bottle.
Glendronach 1990 (25yro) in PX - not tried it but looks superb.
If you fancy something from around the world a bottle of Yamazaki 18 would put a smile on your face, the £200 bourbons/ryes tend to fly out the door, so are kinda hard to find, but a George T or a Sazerac or a WL Weller if you stumble upon one....
Good luck in the hunt! And Enjoy. |

Haha this is the joy of the whisky world! It doesn't matter what you have to spend, there is always that one line that rings true -

| It does seem that you find very few of the good original distillery bottlings aged 25 -30 years under £200 now. |

| If you haven't tried the Glenmorangie Signet then I would recommend it and it would leave you with some change to buy something else. |
