Tasting notes

For those of you who make tasting notes on a regular basis, do you have any particular way of recording them, order of distilleries or just as you taste, do you have many books that you have filled, do you leave room for making changes or more notes for each dram you've had or do you make new notes if you go back and re try,

I'm writing tasting notes for most of whiskies I try for the first time. Even my regular malts are getting new tasting notes every year or two - I believe that personal taste evolve with time and whisky it's influenced by external factors as food, mood, environment, company:

I rarely write much of a tasting note, just a brief taste description and a rating out of 100. I do return and re-evaluate my rating. I did used to keep notes in a notebook but nowadays I use a word document which I also have on my phone which is handy for reference when visiting any whisky shops.

I found a few on Google, from the simple to the silly! I am trying to setup and use a 3 ring binder to use with the blank templates.

Thanks guys, I do write a few notes but usually just quick scribbles as I go, but I've decided to do it a bit more involved, I have some good tasting note books but I think I'll get over run before too long, I might just have to do it on the computer then, I'll be interested to hear more views.. Have you ever used whiskybase?

You can list you collection on there, status of the bottles, price paid etc to track what you have open, closed and empty. You can export it to xl or csv too to get a full list.

You can also add tasting notes and private notes to bottles, but think the tasting notes are public.


It also gives you an estimated value of your collection, which is quite scary when you see it in a single total figure.....

OneNote from Microsoft is a good application if you have it. I use it to save and organize all sorts of things.
