Hello!
This may well be the effect of stock shortages. Most supermarket stuff was provided to the supermarkets by independent bottlers, the IBs are probably having a hard time getting new stock from distilleries at the moment I'd imagine. If you think the major players are killing off their entry level whiskies (10/12yo) and replacing with NAS then they are not going to be selling any aged stock to IBs.
Any IB bottling for a supermarket would need volume, lots of volume. Not sure how much they carry of their own aging stock to do this.
Sainsburys used to do a great 12yo unchillfiltered islay, bottled by Ian macCleod I think. Not seen it near me in ages though _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

| If you get the chance to get a bottle of Aldi's peated Glen Marnoch, you could do a lot worse. Waitrose also do a decent Islay number, but double the price of Aldi's version. |

| I always found Asdas own and sainsburys own brands fairly decent, although never had the islays version I'd expect them to be decent too.. |
