Hello Malt Chaps,
Anybody given this a run for its money?

Looking to purchase, but never tried any of the Flora and Fauna range.
Cheers! |

I've had the Mortlach 1990 Sugar and Spice by Wemyss. That's not considered part of the F&F range, is it? _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

No, Mortlach 16 was part of Flora & Fauna Series, before it was discontinued. You can still find bottles in some whisky shops but the price is now doubled. Check https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-4085.aspx |

| Murray, how it was your Wemyss Mortlach? I tried a sample from Wemyss but can't remember the vintage. It was rather smoky (not peated), similar as Gordon & MacPhail 21 yo (on the other hand G&M 15 yo has no traces of smoke). Did yours had any smoke or it was neutral? |

| The Dailuaine 16 year old Flora & Fauna has always been a favourite of mine, I keep expecting it to be discontinued like most of the F & F bottlings have been. I would say buy it now while it is still available and still at a decent price. |

Diademo, I checked my notebook I keep for tastings. I had it several years ago. I found it a somewhat complex dram. The nose: vanilla, apple, pears, toffee, caramel and tree fruit. The palate: syrupy, apple and spice, dark chocolate, spice and orange peel. Finish: long, high cocoa content dark chocolate, spice, leather and somewhat earthy . This 21 year, 46%abv expression was not smoky IMO. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I have tasted a few independent bottlings of Dailuaine over the years but I would say the 16 year old Flora & Fauna distillery bottling represents the best that the distillery has to offer, a big rich sherried dram which usually has a trace of sulphur. I would say it is worth a try. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |
