This is one I have not tried yet. Jim Murray rates this one at a huge 95.5 for what it's worth. I would appreciate your comments from your personal experience with this expression. Also, how does it compare let's say to the Johnnie Walker Black and Double Black? _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

JWB is a good blend, but I would not rate it nearly that high. Maybe an 85+ would be more realistic to me. JWB was my dram of choice after I move on from Chivas, Pinch and other blends There is nothing really wrong with it and I do like it in a bar, but there is nothing overly interesting about it. I seem to remember it being a blend of up to 40 different whiskies. The many posted reviews seem accurate to me, I do taste bits of fruit, floral, sweetness, old smoke and vodka. Being a Diageo product I would think Talisker and Caol Ila are part of the mix. It is also much nicer than the Red IMHO.
I have not had the double black, I think Ralfy has a review of it posted in the last year or so. |

I am referring specifically to the JW Black 12 year which is different from the JW Black. My notes for the JW Double Black can be seen at:

Yeah, I believe stardard Black Label carries the 12 year age statement, and Double Black has none. Those are the only two black labels.
That being said, I've had the standard 12 year, and it's very easy drinking. Light smoke and smooth. That was my first blend and I could accept a glass happily. _________________ Slainte |

The Double Black is one of my favorite blends rated 94.5 by Jim Murray.
PS. Unfortunately, it's not available here in Ontario but I have 2 one litre bottles friends brought me back from vacations in the USA. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
