Last summer I went to Cragganmore (I had been aiming for Glenfarclas but missed their last tour of the day) on one day, then Blair Athol the next.
It was an interesting contrast - Cragganmore very small and traditional, with just myself and a couple of cyclists in the tour, whereas Blair Athol was much more geared up for the whole Bell's corporate affair, as that's where the majority of their output goes.
Both offered a different slant on the process of distilling, bottling and selling, but I think the smaller and more traditional offering at Cragganmore won me over. The most amusing thing (to me, at any rate) was that in Blair Athol they had an old Porteus Malt Mill on display to show "how it used to be done". It was the same model that they still use in the production line at Cragganmore |
