TN: 1998 Laphroaig - Signatory (Islay, Scotland)

15 year old Laphroaig, bottled in June 2014. 46% NCF, matured in a refil sherry butt, bottle number 451 of 839. Laphroaig is one of my top 3 whiskies and I love sherry cask aged examples of my chosen tipples. Bright mid amber. The nose brings a broad smile to my face, with a clear peaty core intermingling with iodine and dried fruit. No water added, the initial sips start at a medium pace to make their mark on my tongue, then build up to a peaty, forceful medicinal flow. There is some alcoholic burn which I thought the sherry ageing would have smoothed out. No mistaking this dram, enjoyable.

I do like a sherried Laphroaig myself, sounds like you have a good one there Nicos.

Thanks for the welcome Sorren. I like different styles of whisky, but I do enjoy peaty ones a lot.

Calder, it was most tasty.
