I wanted to provide another set of my own taste notes for Bowmore The Devil's Cask 10 Year Small Batch Release, the first one at 56.9%abv. These noted are from today and are since I had my major nose surgery.

Neat- Peat nestled in Black Forest cake, walnut torta, sweet smoke-house hues, fruity ice wine reminiscences; aromatic pipe tobacco billows forth as it soothes the olfactory sense. Rum and raisin ice cream notes shine through along with a rice pudding/tapioca melange with nutmeg sprinkles. Time in glass ripens all these aromas with almost a 3-dimensional quality.

Palate- Peat oozes forth with an oily pleasant mouth-feel, warming the palate, smoke and spice to the fore; strong nutty notes surface suddenly but gracefully. It creates a momentum of strong flavors.

Finish- Long, peat, smoke and ash essences building almost like lava with a faint sweet nutty chorus in the background.

Comments: This is a special dram which delivers all it was meant to be, living up to the anticipation of this release. It is complex, balanced, deep in aromas and flavors from nose to palate to finish. It is a dram of substance from start to finish. It seems older than it is, a feat not readily accomplished.

Today's Rating: 96

*************A splash of water highlights the spice on the nose like strolling through a Mediterranean spice market and "feeling" the sea nearby. It makes the peat reverberate and touches more woody elements. The water enhances a maritime theme. Personally, I prefer it neat!

Murray..
As always your notes are spot on.. I love the way you make me feel hungry and wonder how I can miss these notes in the peated versions.. I intend to try the first release soon, I will compare my notes but I am pretty sure they will not be as impressive as yours..
