They are not really a well kept secret as it has been known since the middle of the summer what the Diageo Special Releases 2015 will be, anyway they have now been officially launched and will be appearing in shops very soon. I was invited to the launch but couldn't make it which I am now kicking myself about as there are a few in this years batch which are way outside my whisky budget.

Anyway this years releases are:

    Lagavulin 12 Year Old
Available in limited quantities, bottled 56.8% ABV. RRP £80

    The Cally 40 Year Old
A limited release of 5,060, bottled 53.3% ABV. RRP £750

    Caol Ila 17 Year Old
Limited availability, bottled 55.9% ABV. RRP £90

    Dalwhinnie 25 Year Old
A limited release of 5,916, bottled 48.8% ABV. RRP £325

    Clynelish Select Reserve
A limited release of 2,946, bottled 56.1% ABV. RRP £550

    Dailuaine 34 Year Old
A limited release of 2,952, bottled 50.9% ABV. RRP £380

    Pittyvaich 25 Year Old
A limited release of 5,922, bottled 49.9% ABV. RRP £250

No doubt I will have 1 or 2 bottles of the Lagavulin 12 as usual.

Ditto.

That said, if the Laga 12 gets reduced anywhere I might consider it.

Same for me as far as the Lagavulin and Caol Ila goes but the Port Ellen has got too rich for me now. The Dailuaine 34 year old is tempting, I would need to hear some good reviews first.

Shocked at the price of the NAS Clynelish which contains some 15 year old whisky.

Like others, no doubt I will have a some Lagavulin 12 and the Caol Ila 17 could tempt me. I have a few bottles of Port Ellen in the cupboard to keep me happy but I didn't pay anything near £2400 for them.

I may have been interested in the Cally but that price I know it'll be around for sometime anyway.

I did look at the 2014 releases and with the exception of 2 you can almost guarantee being able to find the rest of the last year's offerings at retail price. Diageo have just gone too far off the spectrum and seem stubborn enough to keep on trying.

The Lagavulin and the Caol Ila seem the only 2 that are reasonable. Pittyvaich is tempting but there will be plenty of casks out there and £250 seems a little high.

You can readily buy older, IB single cask Caledonians for a fraction of that price. So, why buy this one?

The "Cally 40 Year Old" is now available for UK pre-order at £750 (MofM).

Yes, I get that it is the oldest OB from this lost grain distillery. But that doesn't begin to justify this price tag, especially as it is not even a single cask.

Methinks that it will 'shelf sit' with retailers for many a year, just like the "Port Dundas 20 Year Old" did and does.

Or the Glen Spey and Cragganmore 21yo from 2010, which were still on sale at TWE until a few weeks ago. I even remember these at 25% off a few winters back and they still didn't sell.
