Here are my taste notes from today for Gordon & Graham's Black Bottle, 40% abv by Burn & Stewart Distiller's Ltd.
Body- Light to medium
Color-Amber
Neat-:
Nose: Strawberry jelly roll cake, red Australin licorice, fresh strawberry-rhubarb pie, hint of Kalamata olive juice, prune nectar with a twist of peat, earthy smooth tones, assorted nuts and whiffs of Turkish delight wrapped in Swiss milk chocolate.
Palate: Dark plums, molasses, spice, infusion of moderate peat and smoke underscored by a peppery note.
Finish: Long, drying almost astringent, spice, woody backdrop with vague "sticky lice" on the wax and wane and a certain breath freshening quality.
Comments: A surprisingly extensive nose, layers within layers. The palate raises it a notch into less subtle notes, providing a nice balance between the "sweeter" nose and its' stronger palate with a logical perseveration into a solid finish. A worthwhile blend to try. A great cold weather or rainy day dram.
Rating: 80 _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Great notes again Murray. I preferred the old Black Bottle before they changed the recipe a few years back, it used to be smokier than it is now. I would mark it 75/100 were the old version I would have given it a blended whisky score of 90/100 _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |
