Much as I love Islay Whiskies especially Laphroaig, Ardbeg and Lagavulin, I've always struggled with Bowmore.

What about Caol Ila? And what is it about Bowmore you dislike?

Glenmorangie Lasanta-sulphur taint in my own experience.

Interestingly, I don't enjoy Bowmore, HP18 and the majority of the Glenmorangie core range......

I dunno, it's weird, I like all other Islay whiskies, a lot I love. Bowmore.....I just find it a bit, meh. I under powered, over coloured, not enough 'craft' (lack of filtration, abv levels...etc). The only one I've enjoyed is the Tempest. But then that's a natural expression I guess.

To me it's the Dalmore of Islay; over rated, under delivers. Good for investors not good for drinking.

I should love the Dalmore but I don't, older and very expensive Dalmore is good but the 12 and 15 year old I just cant take a liking to. I would guess many others are the same on here as you rarely see posts from members saying that they are drinking Dalmore.

I occasionally have King Alec III (it's one of my wife's favorite malt). Beside E150 and c-filtration, the only problem is low 40%ABV. It's definitely over-vatted but with 46%+ this would be great easy sipping dram.

I agree that Dalmore's core range is rather uninteresting.

Unfortunately, until they don't get rid of R. Paterson, caramel coloring and low ABV are here to stay...

highland park 12. i like it (goes against the question, i know), but i cannot see myself buying another bottle of it, because i feel the 40% strength really hurts it.

to properly answer the question: johnnie walker black label. i find it lacking in flavour, and an unpleasant bitterness on the finish.

Glenlivet 18. I find it pleasant but nothing special, and if anything I used to prefer the 12 year-old.

Also Clynelish on paper sounds like a distillery with a flavour profile I should love, but I've found the expressions I've tried a bit underwhelming.
