Here are my own taste notes and rating from last night's dinner and tasting for:
Old Pulteney Flotilla 2000, 14 year, 46.4% abv,
Neat-
Nose: A light and fluffy nose; fruity-minty notes evolve with bulrushes and cotton candy with vanilla bean trying a late surge.
Palate: Spicy fruit turning quickly to dark fruit with a vague molasses note, demarara sugar and calming coconut.
Finish: Lingering, a major spontaneous shift from "olfactory light and fluffy" as mentioned during the nose phase to oak tannins, pepper and late breath freshener on the finish.
Comments: Unfortunately, the nose is slow in building and really needs time to open to full effect. This expression is a "late bloomer". A pleasant enough dram but held back from rising to the next level.
Rating: 80 _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
