Here are my own taste notes and rating from last night's dinner and tasting for:
Benriach Sauterne Cask Finish, 15 year, 46% abv.
Neat:
Nose: Jelly roll cake bursts forth with Turkish delight essences; orange treacle, ice wine notes evolve; strawberry rhubarb pie and baked apples with cinnamon sprinkles rounding out this inviting expression.
Palate: Smooth and creamy, mangoes, spice and intriguing chocolate macaroons create the flavorful theme.
Finish: Long, intermittent flashes of spice, woody meteoric elements flying by for just a moment with sweet grape surge and a butterscotch epilogue.
Comments: A most enjoyable dram with a unique and definite enhancement with the sauterne cask finish.
Rating: 85 _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
