Aberfeldy 16yo

The Aberfeldy distillery was founded in 1896 by John Dewar and Sons, opened 2 years later in 1898 and is located on the outskirts of Aberfeldy. This 16yo is a fairly new release ( 2015 ) and is finished in Oloroso sherry casks. Aberfeldy whisky is known as The Golden Dram, and it's precious water source, the Pitilie Burn, is steeped in local folklore and its qualities have long been sought-after. The burn is renowned for being rich in mineral deposits including alluvial gold. The single malt brand of ABERFELDY is part of the portfolio of Bacardi Limited,
The 16yo is at 40%abv..

Nose.. Very fresh and floral, lovely raisins and dates rise with a profusion of spices in tow, cinnamon, ginger and a little nutmeg in the background. Sweet notes like butterscotch, toffee and caramel play havoc with your senses. Apple strudel and honey are also present with a subtle candied orange note.

Palate.. Definitely more fruity, the orange and a little pineapple note come through while soft poached pears drizzled with honey and apple pie with cinnamon bring back memories of lovely puddings granny used to make.. Again butterscotch and caramel bring a scrumptious sweet note. A little citrus peel blends rather nicely with some delicate oaky notes..

Finish.. Deliciously citrusy and woody..

Thoughts.. Lovely, delicious, easy to drink, extremely enjoyable.. You get the point I'm trying to make.. A well balanced, multi layered whisky that you should have on your shelf..

That's one I would like to try. Aberfeldy 12 is one of the first single malts I enjoyed when I switched from blends. Dewar's and Chivas were my regulars. I am seeing the 16 for $130+ on a couple of the U.S. sites.

No problem Darwin.. It was a lovely dram and unfortunately the bottle did not last very long when friends wanted to try it too lol
