I came across a whisky bar in Toronto, about an hour's driver from my home that I would like to try in the new year. They have a very appealing single malt list and tout fantastic hamburgers too.

Where is this in Toronto? I'm definitely going to stop there on my way through.
I'm to new to the whisky world to give you any sound advice, but there are many, many, there I would love to try. |

Hi Joe. The establishment is called Allen's Restaurant.
http://www.dine.to/sites/allens/
Actually, I'm not really looking for advice on what to choose for myself as I know what I would try but rather would like to know what others would choose for themselves if they had the opportunity to go there. I'm also interested in knowing which premium drams appear much cheaper here on the list than what one would pay in the UK for the same drink in a bar/pub/restaurant..
Some of the ones I would consider tasting (likely one ounce) are:
Imperial 1976 24 Year Old (NCF)
14.00
Banff 1966 35 Year Old (Sherry, 46.4%, NCF)
26.00
Mortlach 1975 22 Year Old (57.7%)

I would quite happily join you with your choice of 3! Those are very good prices compared to what I've seen here in the UK. The Banff for example equates to £12.50. The price list I have for a very reasonable whisky bar in Aberdeen, Scotland, has a measure of Banff 1978, 21yo, 43% for £19.25.
I'm surprised how expansive the Toronto Macallan Sienna is at 23.25 (£11.18 GBP) when it's £7.45 in Scotland. It's a similar price to some of the closed distilleries like Banff, Dallas Dhu and Glen Mhor on your list, which wouldn't be the case here in the UK where closed distilleries get a premium price for their rarity.
My 3 from your list would be:
The Macallan Cask Strength (59%, Sherry)
13.95 (£6.71)
Banff 1966 35 Year Old (Sherry, 46.4%, NCF)
26.00 (£12.50)
Brora 1981 18 Year Old (50%, NCF)
28.00 (£13.46)
Back-up 1st reserve is:
Dallas Dhu 1974 24 Year Old ( 59.8%)
24.00 (£11.54) |

Interesting to know the price differentials between here in Ontario, Canada and Scotland via the examples you provided. I like your choices too.
