Surprised that this hasn't been mentioned yet (or, as is more likely, I'm going blind and it has, blatantly)- has anyone got any plans?

I've got my McSween's haggis in the fridge, will be heading out later to get the neeps and tatties. Most likely I'll make a whisky sauce using some Black Grouse as usual.

I'm still unsure whether to open my new Balblair 97 or save it for a special occasion and go with a different new bottle.

It's strange no one has your right!

I'm off to the local pub with a few work mates. Going to have some Haggis and a few drams in there, before cracking open a small bottle of Dalwhinnie 15 at home.

I say open it Indiana!

I've actually got 2 haggises (haggis? haggii?). One for the traditional meal tonight (that I will most definitely be eating alone!), and one for haggis nachos when the Superbowl comes around (again, one that I'll be eating alone!).

I'll be making a burns supper tonight for myself and my girlfriend. It'll be her first burns supper. She did try haggis just a couple of weeks ago and liked it, which is good considering we're moving to scotland soon! Might have a wee dram or two, but i haven't got anything in the house....yet Wink

My wife doesn't like haggis and neither do the kids so no haggis and neeps for me,, the closest I come to a ~Burns supper is a haggis supper from the chip shop. I will still raise a glass to the bard tonight.

You may have missed my post about "A Burns Night Ode to Laphroaig" It is a poem written and performed by Elvis McGonagall, the Scottish poet, who is also a stand-up comedian and a poetry slam world champion. You can watch the video here:

www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/burnsnightodelaphroaig.htm

If you want to impress your friends tonight why not recite it your self, of course you may need a few drams to get the pronunciation correct Very Happy

A Burns Night Ode to Laphroaig

    The "How-Do-You-Pronounce-It?"? malt
Wi' which some Sassenachs find fault
    Aw' storm-lashed-sea-spray-smoky-salt
    Let's exalt Laphroaig

Islay rain on heather, moss and grass
Through kiln "n cask, frae grain tae glass
    A snort, a drop, a dram o' class
    Crack open the Laphroaig

    A richt rambusteous "amber bead"?
No yin fur faintheart or weak-kneed
A muckle skelp aboot the heid
    Pure radge that Laphroaig

Uisge beathe - nae moonshine booze
The nectar that the angels choose
    Ambrosia, immortal muse
    Bottled poetry Laphroaig

In seven pot stills by the ocean
    Liquid joy, sweet peaty potion
A burning kiss of deep devotion
    Ooh la la Laphroaig

Tastebuds flyin' as high as a kite
Brain burstin' oot in fairy lights
A deoch-an-doris tae cap the night
    Just wan more Laphroaig

Queen o' the Hebrides' golden tears
    Distillation o' two hundred years
    Skal, Prost, Salud, Kampei, Cheers
    Slainte-mhath! Laphroaig!

so i've been out and got the good stuff. And since i started researching whisky yesterday and watching the amazing Richard Paterson all day, i bought myself a bottle of Whyte and Mackay. that will also go into the whisky sauce which i've never made before.

Thanks William my wife an I had a good laugh at the kids reciting A Burns Night Ode to Laphroaig, they were not too bad, it must be the Ulster Scots in them. Enjoy your haggis and neeps all. Slainte
