|
|
The Balvenie Whisky Distillery has finally opened its doors to visitors albeit a limited number.
From Balvenies website "http://www.thebalvenie.com/distillerytours/index.html":
We have worked closely with Paul Hodgkiss, a former Balvenie Artisan Award winner, to transform the old manager's office into a suitable area for our guests. When we began work, some of the rooms had not been used for a while and some burst pipe-work over the winter had certainly taken its toll on the hundred-year-old building.
If you would like to request a tour please complete our online request form.
The exceptional quality of The Balvenie is due to the fact that the Balvenie Distillery retains and nurtures a high level of craftsmanship that other malt whisky producers no longer employ: nowhere else will you find a distillery that still grows its own barley, still malts in its own traditional floor maltings and still employs coopers to tend the casks and a coppersmith to maintain the stills.
Please note, the Distillery is shut for a week, commencing 25th September while the boiler is being replaced. Our apologies for any disappointment this may cause. |

Balvenie Tour Details From The Balvenie Website:
Our aim is to give you a truly personal experience, for this reason our tours are limited to a maximum of 8 people. The tour lasts for approx 2.5 hours and costs £20 per person. Our tours are only available to those aged 18 years or over. As the Balvenie is a working distillery there are a few areas with steps and an amount of walking is required. The distillery is over 100 years old, and as such, is not accessible for wheel chairs.
Our tours will run until 8th December 2006 at the following times:-
Monday - Thursday 10am & 2pm
Friday - 10am only
Weekends - Closed (as our coopers need a rest...)
Please ensure that you have someone else to drive you, as we want you to be able to enjoy the tour to its fullest. Then enjoy the rest of your dram...
Advanced booking is essential. To request your tour, please complete our online request form or call us on +44 (0) 1340 820 373.
Tour Details
Our tour manager will greet you at the Balvenie Distillery Office. Over a cup of coffee, they will talk you through a little of the history of the site before the tour starts properly, with a walk into the maltings. |

Hello!
We are www.scotlandontv.tv - a web tv channel, making free-to-view programmes about Scotland, and broadcasting them globally over the internet.
We have recently filmed with the Balvenie Distillery on Speyside, where we were met by the Balvenie Global Brand Ambassador, David Mair. David showed us around the distillery and explained the processes involved in making a single malt whisky. We have made a series of programmes which we are uploading to the web channel - Part 1 was published last week and Part 2 will be available from this weekend. If you would like to take a look at Part 1 (Malting & Kilning), this is a direct link to the clip: http://www.scotlandontv.tv/?channel=Food+and+Drinks&clipid=1380_SMG1108
We hope you enjoy the films.

Thank you very much for this information.
Your web-site has a lot of info which I will make available to our Speyside visitors.
Looking forward to the Part II.

The Balvenie tour (and tasting afterwards) was by far the best Distillery Tour I've ever done (and I've done a few!)
The care and tradition that these guys are passionate about runs through he whole ethos of the brand - unlike the churn it out sister Distillery next door at Glenfiddich!
My only regret was not buying a bottle of Tun 1401 Batch 1 when I was offered it after a tour. I did not realise the significance of it and figured I had other things to spend £150 on so close to Christmas. A very poor decision on my part there!!! |
