Hello

My husband is a big whisky fan and his current favourite is Ardbeg 10YO. His 40th birthday is coming up in April and I'd like to get him a really nice bottle of something - he loves smoky malts, and I am willing to spend up to £150 but preferably less - I'd like him to feel like he can still drink it, not so expensive it just sits on a shelf!

I know nothing about whisky so I thought I would come to the experts Smile The only ones I wondered so far that might be contenders were Talisker Dark Storm & Laphroaig 10YO cask strength?

Thanks in advance of your opinions Smile

You could possibly go for something like lagavulin distillers edition, usually around £70 in supermarkets like tesco, also go online for an older coal ila, there are some good Bruichladdich offerings on their site, for around £90.. Highland park 18 is a great malt and inside your budget.. I am sure there will be plenty of choices up soon from the ones that like the peated malt.. Whatever you choose let us know.. Not sure how much the new octomore is but that is a heavily peated expression..

Just throwing my hat in here;

If you have £150 then I'd get him a bottle of Ardbeg Corryvrecken (personally my favourite Ardbeg) and also a bottle of Laphroaig 18 year old.

The Laphroaig 18 isn't massively smoky, but its a stunning peated whisky. They are discontinuing it this year so that'll be that.....and it's still not gone bonkers mad on price yet. Can be yours for around £80.
