The recent discontinuation of Scapa 16 (which I am unable to now source) made me wonder if anyone knew of any other newly discontinued whiskys which are still readily available and fairly easy to find?

Obviously from a collecting point of view but also I'm gutted I am no longer able to get Scapa 16 and dont want to fall foul of this again!!

Thanks

Craig

anCnoc 16yo has been discontinued (or is going to be soon) - very good dram presented in a craft format at a good price.

I've heard (and don't shoot me if I'm wrong!) that Laphroaig 18yo is due to be discontinued this year.

How does (or did) the anCnoc 18 compare to the anCnoc 16?

It's the same whisky but it's aged to an extra 2 years in sherry casks. Profile is very different as the 16yo was 100% bourbon wood. The 18yo, in my view, is more interesting and has a really nice spiced sticky toffee character. They sherry sits over the top of what is a good core whisky and it doesn't shroud it and leave you with a sherry bomb.

Good evening people,

Being relatively new to the world of single malts, can somebody please explain to me why distilleries discontinue these Whisky's? Especially when they seem to be so popular and have no shortage of potential buyers?

Are there any particular Whisky's out there (less than £100 per bottle) that I really should sample before they cease to exist?

Thanks for your time

Sorry to hear you can't find a Scapa 16! I found one back in September and it was the last in that shop... Good luck searching! I heard the same about Longmorn 16...

Kempy71 it is often a financial decision which is also related to maturing stock levels.

Sorry if I have misunderstood but you are wanting us to tell you of any discontinued whiskies that are easy for you to buy and collect, presumably to sell on for profit at a later date. Thus making it harder for whisky drinkers to buy and enjoy at a sensible price.

First and foremost I am a whisky drinker.

I also have a small whisky collection (which I mostly plan to drink)

I will sell some of my whiskys but only so I can afford to buy whiskys I would not otherwise be able to afford. Does anyone really think there is anything wrong with that??????

Edinburghlandlord and 5-12-1908 - I managed to get a case of Scapa (Ilove the stuff) today, if you want some for cost price - let me know Wink

At least the highland park 18 and laphroaig 18 year old will discontinue, also the glendronach 15 year revival is going to be stopped for a few years.

All of them are either already discontinued or will be in the next months.

EDIT:

I can't confirm the highland park 18. It's just adding up a few signs in the market and the industry doing this in a broader range. Both others are confirmed, the HP 18 is not.

In addition to my above post I found out from an ambassador of highland park that the 18 will continue to exist but in very low quantities.

2013 worldwide 130.000 bottles
2014 worldwide 65.000 bottles

And he mentioned 2015 and 2016 a lot less but no exact numbers.

That is why the price of the 18 will increase but in contrast to my earlier post it will not discontinue.
