Murray's taste Notes for Glendronach 8 Year The Hielan 46%

Here are my own taste notes from last night's delightful dinner and tasting-

Glendronach 8 Year The Hielan 46% abv.
This one is aged in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks.

Color-Gold

Nose: The curtain rises with a lilac-honey hybrid and burgeoning aromatic summer flowers. You are drawn in with rice pudding and tapioca on olfactory thermals taking you for a pleasant ride. Meringue and buttermilk pancakes with a sweet tinge satisfy with a late vanilla explosion.

Taste: Light with an almost invisible oily texture. Spice fireworks glimmer and then quickly dissipate having created the desired effect. What remains is floating exotic fruit and growing "sticky lice" (licorice root sticks).

Finish: More than lingering, one is immersed in anise pizzelle ( Italian waffle cookies), spice and mild tannins which boasts its youth in an understated way so as not to overpower the balance already achieved.

Comments: The Hielan though only 8 years old is surprisingly pleasing and synthesizes a lovely aromatic and flavor profile. This one is certainly worth a try.

I find myself buying quite a few Glendronachs, although they are the older ones I do keep looking at the younger ones.. Maybe next purchase.. I am hooked on those 1994 vintages..
