Murray's taste notes- Powers Gold Label Triple Dist. 42.3%

To honor our Irish friends for St. Paddy's Day, I decided to pick up several bottles of Powers Gold Label Irish Whiskey produced at Midleton Distillery. Though not a single malt, I decided to post my taste notes here to give it the attention it deserves.

Here are my taste notes from today-:

Neat-

Color-Hay with a golden tinge

Nose: Lilacs swaying in the wind and vanillin playing in the shadows with honey. Nineteenth century cologne wafts in as a courtier with dignity. Breakfast cereal is being served along with a mixture of unsalted exotic nuts (cashews, Brazil and pecans). English toffee presented on a stirling platter completes the photo.

Taste: Surprisingly full-bodied, warming with spice and intense oakiness and a dark toffee burst that combined almost takes your breath away for a moment.

Finish: Long, the oak perseverates, the tanin providing a receptacle of satisfaction. Leather and spice merge to create a lovely balance. Dark chocolate pudding darts in and out like the iconic PAC MAN.

Comments: The Powers Gold Label is an Irish pot still & grain whisky that merits attention. The 42.3% abv yields a memorable expression with pomp and circumstance from nose to finish. It has a definite meatiness on the palate. This triple distilled whiskey is worth a long look and taste. This is a special Irish whiskey experience that takes one on a metaphorical ski lift ride to the heights of aroma and taste satisfaction.

***As an aside, Jim Murray rates this one at 96. This is Jim's highest rated Irish blended whisky in the 2016 Whisky Bible.

Brilliant notes Murray. I looked at my bottle today and wondered how long it would be until I open it. Not very long by the sounds of it...!!!

Typically good review Murray... I need to try this one..
