|
|
Here are my own taste notes and review of Dalmore King Alexander III that I wrote during my attendance at the Scottish Craftsmen's Association 19th Ann. Whisky Experience last night in Niagara, Ontario.
Color-Mahogany
Nose: Floral essences, violets, concentrated grapes, exotic fruit with a blast of passion fruit, lichee nuts and a waft of old spice aftershave. There is a massive set of aromas associated with stomping grapes the old-fashioned way from another time with women in the large vats releasing aromatic heaven with their feet. Wild blueberries create a constant refrain which almost hypnotizes.
Taste: Full-bodied. A spice explosion with a sherry burst reverberates with stewed cherries and a hint of roasted chestnuts. The multi-barrel influences dance along the tongue with style and pizzazz.
Finish: Long, spice, minty with a sweetish tinge and scrumptious blueberry swirl soft ice cream.
Comments-A classic dessert scotch. The intermingling of the 6 cask types (wine, Madeira, sherry, Marsala, Kentucky bourbon and Port) give rise to almost a chameleon effect with aromas and flavors that dart hither and fro, changing form and substance in a delightful way.
Rating: 92 _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Cheers for the notes Murray, we rarely see this one mentioned or reviewed, pity as it is an excellent expression of the Dalmore. I am sure the no age statement and price tag is a bit off putting to buyers but it really is very good as your notes show. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Great review of beautifully designed malt. It would be one of my favourites with 46%+ ABV.
At 40% it’s just a bit too shy and confused (all those different casks are fighting for attention with each other).
BTW I have three bottles stacked away (it’s my wife’s favourite malt). Who am I to question her taste… |

| Totally agree, this needs to be 46%+ just felt a little dull to me, you know it's good but it, it know it's good, but it just lacks that certain something.. But as always a great review. |
