What do you guys make of this?

https:://www.thedramteam.co.uk/

The inaugural box looks to contain a few interesting drams...

https:://www.thedramteam.co.uk/blogs/news/164976903-our-inaugural-box-scotchy-scotch-scotch

I've tried the 105 (at a tasting) and the Three Wood (on a tour at the Distillery) but the others are new to me...

Not something that would interest me, especially the first line up. Perhaps of interest if you are very new to whisky and haven't sampled many. Also I prefer a full bottle to get to know a whisky, it is all over too quickly with a small sample. Your money really is better spent going to a whisky tasting event IMO

Isnt this a bit like Tweet Tasting except your are paying for the privilege to take part in it and promote the whisky brands you are tasting.

Thanks for your thoughts James, I'd say I'm realatively new to whisky (about 3 years now) so still with much to learn. I've been lucky enough to have tried quite a few different whiskies in that time and have done a few distillery tours on a couple of trips to Scotland and attended a number of local tastings (just wish there were more near where I am).

I think I understand what you're saying about getting to know a whisky as you work your way through a bottle but I've found that there have been a few bottles that I've bought that I just didn't get on with, so I quite like the idea of samples to try before going to the expense of a full bottle. I appreciate that samples are not a particulary cost effective way to buy whisky but it's certainly cheaper than buying a full bottle of every whisky I'd like to try.

Talking of events, as a special 40th birthday treat to myself I'm going to the TWE Whisky Show in London later in the year, really looking forward to this - have you ever been? - if so do you have any tips for a newbie?

Hi Whisky Dog, I've never done a Tweet Tasting but did watch the Bruichladdich online tasting a little while back (although I couldn't get the sample sets as they had sold out).

I don't think I've ever had a whisky I didn't pay for - I know there are quite a few online bloggers who get free samples but can't ever see myself being able to or wanting to do that.

It just seemed like it might be a way to try some whiskies I've haven't yet been able to, without having to buy the full bottles and maybe also a way of opening my eyes to whishies I would probably never of considered trying.

I agree with James that the 25ml samples are a bit small (I've thought that about the 3cl MoM samples too) but you would get a 10ml sample of what they consider to be a special dram. I've had a few larger samples (5cl) from other places which were much better value for money and in some cases were excellent whisky - in my opinion, not that it counts for much Smile

If we all bought a full bottle without trying them first we would all have a few bottles sitting in a corner doing nothing.. I have been lucky enough to be involved in a few Twitter tastings and have a few lined up, I for one will also join in with these, I don't think it's too bad paying an average of £4 per sample, try going to your local and getting some of these drama for that price..

I would suggest somewhere like Master of Malts if you want to try samples before buying a full bottle, I wouldn't be keen on the idea of someone deciding which samples I try.

I think part of the reason that I really like this idea is because it will present me with drams that I probably wouldn't otherwise try - therefore broadening my whisky knowledge and experiences. There is so much whisky out there these days and I'm pretty sure there is some really good stuff that totally passes me by. I guess only time will tell Smile

Hello chaps!

This is Chris Borrow here, I'm part of The Dram Team, and saw we had some traffic to our site from here, so thought I'd drop by and say hello, and thank you for the interest! JWbassman, appreciate you bringing us to people's attention, whoever you are!

If anyone has any questions on the business and what we've got planned/what we're doing, more than happy to expand on what you can see publicly on the site. We're still shaping our business and how it'll work and we're VERY open to feedback from whisky-fans of all sorts.

As some of you have got at above, the idea with what we're up to us to explore whisky - since some of you have a long history of whisky-intrepidness, we can't hope to cater to everyone, but we're hoping to make it a lot of fun and do interactive events like the Tweet Tasting for our subscribers to build some community about it.

For those of you that have ticked of a tonne of drams already, we have some one-off stuff we'll be doing that might be of interest. I'll say no more on that as we're not announcing it till next week, but keep an eye out Smile

Anyway, thanks again for the interest, thanks for introducing me to this very cool website, and hope to hear from some of you.

Cheerio,

Chris

P.S. Feel free to email me directly, my contact should be shown here somewhere I believe (not the most technically gifted!)
