Our last Companions of the Quaich single malt tasting and dinner until next Fall was held last night and included three whiskies:
Caol Ila 12 Year G & M, Conoisseur's Choice 2003 vintage, 46% abv.
Benromach 10 Year Old - 100° Proof (70cl, 57.0%)
Deanston Virgin Oak 46.3%abv.
My taste notes for the first 2 now appear in the Taste Notes section of the Forum.
I've posted taste notes for the Deanston Virgin Oak in the past and frankly I did not enjoy it as much the second time around. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Great notes again Murray. I think you do have to be in the mood for the young Deanston Virgin Oak, it certainly lives up to its name and is packed with virgin oak character, which does make it a little un-Scotch like. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

| The Deanston Virgin Oak isn't much to my taste, too intense with the virgin oak notes and they drown out what the whisky may have had to offer. Some may enjoy it. |
